There will always be more problems to solve and potential opportunities to explore than you have the resources for.  How do you deal with this individually and as a team?  

  • Working hard is a big part of the solution.  Waking up early and staying a little late never killed anyone.  
  • Working efficiently is also critical.  Work with urgency and accuracy without over-processing.

These however are just prerequisites.  The real issue is how you prioritize and sequence what you are working on.  If you are leading a team it is how effectively you align the team around prioritization and execution.  This gets exponentially harder as your company grows.

Improving the project planning and delivery process starts with improving predictability around the schedule. Nearly every Superintendent and Foreman is familiar with the Short-Interval-Plan (SIP) and typically fill one out weekly looking ahead 1+ weeks.
Customer Strategy Intersection
Having an effective market strategy is the #1 thing a contractor can do to ensure sustainable and profitable growth. For your strategy brainstorm the following and look for intersections:

Succession Fact #2: No exit strategy or deal structure will create desire, alignment, and competencies in the management team. With that said, it is incredibly important that the exit strategy and structure of the deal maintains and enhances the team.
